LET'S DO THIS. Cut in particular because there is discussion about fandom and characters, and I'm not sure if anyone cares to read those.

Now I feel bad because that is the major reason I don't ship Sokka/Toph because I would like a group of two guys and two girls that like don't pair off at all (that and Toph is 12). And I am also opposite in the fact that I have like no interest in Toph, whereas I adore Suki and Sokka/Suki, but oh well, although I hate it when Toph/Sokka fans insist Suki is boring, like please be speaking for yourself and not for me.

Don't feel bad. That wasn't my intention at all. D: I understand it's your personal preference, and you were never unfair about it when we talked about it. You can't force yourself to care about a ship that doesn't hit your I SHIP IT buttons, not even a little. I was more frustrated at the general idea of canon purists who insist "Sokka/Suki is awesome and canon, how can anyone not like Suki, how dare they!!" without trying to understand why people ship Sokka/Toph or prefer Toph over Suki. It doesn't happen as often as Suki bashers, but it does happen. It's not like I'm upset about Sokka/Toph not being canon, and I never expect my fanon to happen, but I still don't like that constantly being used as the main reason why it couldn't work or why it's not fun to ship.

Oh, and I agree with you about Toph's age. My little sister is fourteen and I still can't imagine her being in a relationship. I'm uncomfortable wiht the fact that she's starting to like boys now. I definitely couldn't imagine it two years ago, when she was twelve years old. (It might just be me, though. She's my baby sister! Of course I'm going to think that. But now I apply it to all kids, because one of her little girl friends had to take a pregnancy test at twelve and UGH GOD NO. D:) It's a little weird to realize how young the characters are. I prefer Sokka/Toph in a future setting, because the three years difference won't mean anything in a few years. Then it's just a number.

That's why I feel bad about this, because I think I'm one of those Sokka/Toph fans who was bored with Suki, or didn't care about her as much as I did for the other characters. I liked her, but I didn't love her. I thought she brought a lot to the narrative--beyondheroism__ put it in our twitter conversations--but she lacked something that I still can't put my finger on. Either way, she didn't engage me as other characters did. I don't insist to Suki fans she's boring, though, because that's just outright rude and mean. :\ I do think some Sokka/Toph fans were completely unfair about Suki when she became a member of Team Avatar for the season finale, completely disregarding the fact that they let Zuko, the guy who stalked, come along with them. If Zuko can be a member, why not her? She had just as many plausible reasons to be there. (The Kyoshi Warriors were prisoners of the Fire Nation and she wanted to rescue her friends. That and uh, SHE IS A KYOSHI WARRIOR, who can beat you with a fan, you better believe she is a valuable asset for the team.)

And because I forgot to talk about this part in the last comment, I'll just add on from here, because the previous comment is TLDR. XD;

I'm definitely not one of those Sokka/Toph fans who ships them alongside Aang/Katara to have a close-knit group paired off with each other (I can take or leave Katara/Aang, and I've said before that the only canon ship I really liked was Zuko/Mai), but I wouldn't have minded if it went that way. I'm glad the writers didn't go down that route, because I like creators that dare to be different with dynamics like that, but I wouldn't have cared if it went the other way. The only case of close-knit group getting paired off that genuinely annoyed me came from the rabid Zuko/Katara fans that insisted on Aang/Toph subtly thrown into the fic to basically get Aang out of the way. But it had to be a blatant case, like, "Zuko took Katara into his arms and kissed her with his hot manly lips and OH DON'T WORRY, KATARA ISN'T BREAKING AANG'S HEART, HE IS WITH TOPH SO ALL IS WELL let's get back to the fic." :|

I hate that in all fics, mostly because it is okay for people to be single and happy you know.

See I shipped Sokka/Suki from the beginning before Toph came on the scene and before I fell for even Mai/Zuko. But I love Suki, but I am naturally drawn to any lady who is the leader of the warriors. In fact the only fic that I have been interested in as of late is fic that explores life on Kyoshi Island.

I hate it, too. It's just so ... blatantly obvious what the author's intention is. XD; There's people that ship Aang/Toph because they think it's rad and that's great, but there's other fans who only ship them to get him out of the picture so the other ship can work. If you're going to ship Aang with someone else for Zuko/Katara to happen, at least be realistic about it and realize it'd take time for Aang to get over it and find someone else.

(As for being single and happy, agreed. I don't mind if he does find someone else in these fics, but ... don't literally change his emotion or do it so quickly. Why does giving Aang another love interest, so soon after realizing she loves someone else, give him proper closure as opposed to realizing Katara won't love him back and learning to be okay with that, and not rushing into another love interest? That's okay, too!)

I thought Sokka/Suki was cute in season one and the beginning of season two. I wasn't sold on it, though, not as much as I was with Sokka/Toph. Their scenes just pleased me more than Sokka/Suki did as a whole. As for Suki by herself ... I don't know. It bugs me because there's nothing wrong with her, and I can't definitely say "well she bugged me in this one particular scene so I don't like her :|" since that never happened, but I couldn't attach myself to her outside of her Kyoshi warrior badassness. (Yes, that's a word, because I said so.) I liked her but I didn't care that much about her, as I felt with any other minor characters such as Teo and Haru. I know that's not really fair, because she got more screen time and a bigger role than the both of them put together, but that's exactly how I feel.

Okay, I tried to edit my comment, but I keep getting an error code. So I'll post the other stuff here:

I saw another example of Aang getting a rebound girlfriend, but over a different ship, and it was the Fire Nation girl from that academy he attended. It wasn't so much the ship that bothered as much as the fact that he literally just witnessed Katara and Toph kissing, shed tears over, and she just turns up on the scene and he's instantly better! The artist/author/I forget where I saw it from, said they didn't immediately get together, but ... still, convenient arrival is too convenient.

(The ship was Katara/Toph, which I tried to understand but I don't get at all. They were just so catty with each other in the show and so extreme about it that I can't picture them lasting as a couple. Plus, Toph identifies Katara as someone her real mother couldn't be for her, so I don't think Toph wouldn't show an interest in her based on those feelings.)
