samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (they're ruining everything!)
There was an article in my newspaper yesterday about the possibility of Wicked making it to the big screen. Some of the writer's personal choices to play the leading ladies (since some casting director told him to bring up some ideas) were as followed: Lea Michele from Glee or Demi Lovato for Elphaba, and Taylor Swift or Dakota Fanning for Glinda.

Gag me, Chicago Sun-Times, you are the worst.

And I'm not even touching who their personal choices for Fiyero. Trust me, you don't want to know.

The only lady I can see pulling off the role of Elphaba is Lea Michele. Not only does she sorta look like the original cast member Idina Menzel (no, seriously, google it, the resemblance is fittingly frightening), but I heard she has Broadway credentials since she was a little girl. Also, she sang "Defying Gravity" before, and it's one of my (very few) favorite Glee songs.

Everyone else is just a huge NO, and I hope that if they ever do make a movie they'll actually pick the right people instead of whose popular.

(Personally I'd rather not see anyone from Glee in the movie since...well, I hate the show. Apologies to anyone on my flist who loves it, but I'll never understand its popularity.)

TLDR: LEAVE WICKED ALONE, IT'S FINE THE WAY IT IS, UGH.

1. Well, onemanga.com is closing down. Which is fine with me, because I rarely ever read manga series anymore and when I do, it's because I've purchased the books from Borders. Still, it's a little sad to see it go since it was a great source for manga series that hadn't been licensed in America yet. Now I haven no idea how I'm going to read series like NANA if the artist ever picked it up again.

2. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gemkazoni, I watched A Girl Who Leapt Through Time. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do, but it really was a good film! (I may or may not have tear bended twice.) So um. If anyone hasn't seen it yet, you should really check it out!

3. Avatar: The Legend of Korra! I'm so excited; I'm glad that the critical mess that is the godawful The Last Airbender doesn't seem to be effecting the progress of this show. And the new Avatar is a lady! (My younger sister was surprisingly excited about that. The first thing she wanted to know is if the new Avatar was going to be a girl. SO PROUD OF HER.)

Although I heard that the fandom is already being incredibly immature about the fact that Aang's son is going to appear in the series, and the strong possibility that he's also the son of Katara? To be honest, I'm so over the canon vs. fanon battle that I really don't care about either ships anymore. Both of them aren't worth the effort, in my opinion; I care but I don't care that much. I just want to put that aside, move onto the new show and welcome it as it is.

4. I'll work on meme prompts either tonight or tomorrow. I'm just so ... blah lately. I haven't been able to crawl out of my insomniac habits yet. :\ Real life is incredibly dull, too.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (there's been trials and tribulations)
I feel like shit. I've had these strange body aches and dull pain since Tuesday. First it just started with the ball of my right foot, and now the muscles in the back of my left thigh are sore and I'm starting to feel it in my hands. I don't know what I did. Maybe standing for five hours with cheap pairs of shoes are doing it to me, or I pinched a nerve? I felt fine on Monday, but as soon as early Tuesday morning rolled around, it hit me. :\

In other news, because I know a few people are going to want to hear about this or in case anybody's curious: The Last Airbender's getting critically panned by both professional critics and fans alike. So far it's got an astounding rating of 9% on Rotten Tomatoes. (That may or may not change since it's only been released this week.)

Personally I can't say I'm surprised. Even when you leave the casting decisions out of the reasons why you shouldn't see this, it just sounds like a disappointing film in every other aspect. I really hope nobody pays to see this, only because it doesn't seem to come anywhere close to the energy and spirit of the show.

(By the way, the rumors about the female characters' roles getting diminished or completely forgotten? Sorry to say, but given what's been said in reviews so far, it's true. Not only was Katara a weaker fighter, but she didn't even get to inspire the Earth Kingdom prisoners to fight back against the Fire Nation soldiers, or fight against Pakku, or even get the upper-hand in her one-on-one fight with Zuko. And the Kyoshi Warriors--plus Suki--were cut from the film completely.)

EDIT: Also, I've tried nutella for the first time ever. It's ridiculously delicious. (Sadly I'm the only one in the house who likes it. Too bad, there's going to be a jar in the house from now on.) I gobbled up two pieces of toast covered in nutella and I plan to do it again tomorrow when I wake up. I'm just sad I couldn't celebrate its goodness with bananas because we're all out. :(

Um. I actually signed up for [livejournal.com profile] schmoop_bingo. I'm not sure if I'll complete this table, but it could serve as motivation to actually get some writing done.

My table, plus some thoughts... )

I'm debating on getting a table for that Hurt/Comfort challenge at [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo; thankfully you can request to leave off abuse and sexual trauma as prompts, because I'm um, really not comfortable working with any of those within the genre at all. That and I'm curious as to which prompts I'd get. (I probably won't sign up for them, though. Some of the prompts are just...a little too much.)

I won't even bother with [livejournal.com profile] kink_bingo because I'm such a bashful person over smut. I can read it but writing it is a completely different field for me. That and most of the prompts are just too silly to even comprehend why anyone would find some of these things kinky.

Currently I'm watching The Shining. It's a little disturbing, but not really creepy, because the weird, psychotic music playing in every scene ruins the build-up. THANKS FOR RUINING A FAIRY TALE ABOUT PIGS FOR ME, THOUGH, YOU DAMN MOVIE.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now ([av] I am in love with you)
So tired. I've been awake since five o'clock this morning. @_@; I can't wait to get to sleep tonight, because I had a bad day and I want to put it behind me.

I got The Princess on the Frog on Blu Ray today! It's great. (And I spazzed out because OMG, THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE'S COMING OUT IN APRIL, EEEEEE.)

I played through Final Fantasy XIII a bit more today, and I've finally reached chapter eight. Obviously there's a huge spoiler warning here. Nothing major, but I'm putting a warning up just in case anyone else hasn't reached that point yet.

[Error: unknown template qotd]

I had to sit and think about this! I'm usually tolerant of movies. It doesn't take much to please me. Even if there's something bad about a movie, I'll try and find something enjoyable about it.

I can't think of the worst movie ever--it'll come to me eventually, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment--but I think the worst movie I've seen recently was Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. It's a horrible spin in a classic story about Christmas. The plot basically goes like this:

A selfish womanizer is visited by the ghosts from the past, present, and future, to show how big of a douchebag he's been towards women all his life, shortly after he ruins his brother's relationship with his fiance the day before their wedding. The love interest/trophy is Jennifer Garner's character, who used to be the main character's childhood friend. Even though he used her for sex once upon a time, and he acts like a prick to everyone around him, Garner still loves him against her better judgment and secretly pines for him. (Watch the movie, and come back and tell me whether or not even Garner herself doesn't believe this. Her performance is painful to watch.)

The plot itself isn't as bad, but the main problem I had with this film is that the main character doesn't seem to completely learn his lesson until the very last minute, and it seems to find excuses as to why he acts the way he acts. The film showcases how his uncle was a womanizer himself and taught him how to follow in his shoes, as though this is supposed to excuse his deplorable behavior. His uncle was a bad influence, I'll agree with that, but it was the guy's choice to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

Another problem I had with the film is the future sequence the main character is shown. Garner is marrying a successful, handsome doctor who's a decent, loving guy, and she appears very happy with him. What does he do? He keeps insisting, "She was supposed to marry me! She's supposed to belong to me! This isn't how it's supposed to go!" It's like, yes, how sweet that you selfishly insist that this woman gives you another chance and marries you and you realize her importance, even though you used her for sex and moved onto the next woman because of your overwhelming fear of commitment/getting hurt. Boo-hoo for you! How dare she move on with her life and finds a man that treats her right!

Both of these don't measure up to a strange scene where the ghost of his uncle--who is seemingly a new man in the afterlife and regrets his own lonely existence--appears with the character in the middle of a street, and makes it rain with tissues and tears to showcase how badly the character's hurt his past girlfriends. Then the uncle makes it rain used condoms to showcase how much of a whore he is. They didn't show the condoms, but it was still...pretty disgusting.

Predictably, the plot wraps itself up lazily, the main character stops taking scandalous photographs of half-naked women for magazines and becomes a wedding photographer instead, and Garner gets back together with him instead of, you know, finding a man that she can actually trust.

The only good thing about the movie was the fact that he kept a photograph of Garner from when they were children in his wallet. That was sweet and it could've worked if it was a different movie.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (❝EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!❞)
Guess who just saw Princess and the Frog and adored it so very much?

Guess who just got her period in the cinema bathroom? (Lalala, I'm not cutting that part because I DON'T CARE.)

And guess who is feeling very blunt/mouthy right now? Seriously I keep talking at EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING and I can't shut up.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (DISNEY ▶ you came back)
I got the Diamond Edition of Snow White. My thoughts! )

Overall though, I enjoyed it. I can't watch the bonus material, though. The Diamond Edition came with two Blu-Ray discs and alas, the bonus material is on one of those. And I lack a Blu-Ray machine and PS3, so I can't watch it. Sigh. I'll have to wait to see how they made the movie like the Disney geek I am.

But! Good news: Beauty and the Beast is coming out on Diamond Edition next year. meaning, I can finally have a DVD copy of the film. */FLAILS FOREVER!!!* Seriously, it is in my top five Disney films: The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules tied with Mulan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Fox and the Hound. Okay, so it's actually Top 6, but it sounded cooler the other way.

Dumbo is coming out on Diamond Edition next year too, but I'm not sure if I should get it. :\

Speaking of Disney, I'll end this entry with this note: there's this video game coming out for the Wii called Epic Mickey. It looks awesome.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (TT ▶ teach me your ways)
Since real life is boring, have a few links.

Nostalgic Critic reviews Surburban Comando. I had no idea about this movie's existence. Now I kinda wish I didn't. D:

Batman: The Bold and The Brave, the musical! [livejournal.com profile] cheriestar told me about this episode. The show is pretty campy for a Batman cartoon, so this episode was fun. Neil Patrick Harris playing the Big Bad! Super heroines singing love ballads while knocking out villains! Oh and Batman sings at some point. It's kinda awesome.

Foot-Long Spider Lizard Wants To Join The Legion Of Super-Pets. Spider Lizard, Spider Lizard...
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now ((disney) your taste in books suck)
lmao, Secret of Nihm 2 is on and I'm watching it right now. I haven't seen this movie since it aired on the Disney Channel, when I was in the 7th grade. It is so horrifyingly bad. It's like a Disney sequel, except it's blander than the usual Disney sequel.

Also, Martin is the goofiest villain ever. Do all brainwashed villains get this weirdass accent they didn't have before, and magically conjure a dark, flowing cloak?
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now ((disney) WHAT THE HELL)
I watched it. I watched the whole thing. What the hell did I just watch? I feel like I got trolled, but it's actually a real movie.

The only thing that makes it better is Nostalgic Critic's review of it.

(also why the fuck am i still awake.)
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now ((disney) the cone of shame)
SPOILERS? )

In short, I enjoyed the movie, despite the mistakes. I can't wait to see what the last movie(s) is going to be like.

Edit: Um, there's spoilers in the comments, too. BEWARE.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (♥ D8)
Something about an update on the Avatar movie casting lingers under this cut. If you could care less or you're sick of hearing about it, don't read this. )

Real life issues are calmer, but then they're not. There's barely any pain in my left side now. My appetite was completely gone today. I forced myself to eat, though, so I'm good to go.

The only reason why I'm up this late, at this point? Video gaming. All of my characters are at levels 99. Time to face Sephiroth! That final battle will happen ... tomorrow, lulz. Totally not ready for this shit. D:

Edit: So I came to a few conclusions about FF7, when I actually remember my shipping preferences.

• So I discovered that I ship Barret/Tifa. Then I remember Cloud and feel guilty about it. Then I settle for an OT3 - Barret/Tifa/Cloud - so everyone can be happy. I know it's weird, but I can't imagine Tifa without Cloud and vice versa, or Barret without Tifa OR Cloud. It's my first OT3 ever.

• When I was younger, I shipped Reno/Yuffie. It's pretty much a fanon/crack pairing, if I'm right on this. I haven't seen anyone else show an interest in this. I don't know where the pairing came from, or why I thought about it, but I did. I think I had my ships figured out when I was ... ten or eleven years old, except Yuffie was left out and I felt bad, so I slapped her into a pairing with Reno. Looking at the pairing now ... it's totally hot and I hope I was the first one to think of it. My ten-year-old self knew what she was doing. XD;

I also shipped Sephiroth/Aeris I MEAN. You see nothing.

• No slash pairings. (Except the occasional Cid/Vincent, because it's fucking weird and I love it.) Not even the femmslash. I ship the ladies for the lulz, but never seriously, not even for a minute. I've been stuck in my ways about the characters, and none of them really strike me as gay or bi.

• I used to ship Vincent/Lucrecia, but ... obviously that changed a lot. Lucrecia as a character annoys me even more now. I feel bad for her, and then I think she knew exactly what she was doing and it's too late to regret those decisions. That, and I think Vincent needs to realize that Lucrecia wasn't perfect and that he should stop punishing himself for a situation he had no control over in the first place.

So Up made me cry. Three different times. It was a good movie. <3

I also adored Pixar's animated short, Partly Cloudy. SO FUCKING CUTE.

Edit: Also, [livejournal.com profile] razorsaw, I am SO sorry about not replying to your IM. I was really busy with something over here and I didn't pay attention when I logged out of AIM. :/

Movies Underneath )

I think it's safe to say that the majority of my favorite movies are all cartoons and/or animated. And Disney. Uh. DON'T JUDGE ME, I wanted to be an animator as a kid until I realized my artwork sucked. (Is it just me, or is this meme missing a lot of movies? I don't see Enchanted listed in Modern Disney, and I'm noticing a few more cult classics that didn't make this list. :/)

Time for bed.
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (♥ smile like you mean it)
→ This week has been pretty badass. Hope the weeks to come are just as awesome! Though, I have a feeling I won't have time for ... anything anymore. I'll probably start going to work directly after school, so my entire morning and evenings will be filled these days. I also discovered that I have a lot more classes to take before I even get my associates, sonofabitch I'm so sick of school. :/ But I'll have money to pay for classes now, so I won't burden my parents anymore.

→ Got that DVD of Disney's Pinocchio. I forgot how much I love the music in that movie. Though, now that I'm older ... the Pleasure Island sequence disturbs me a lot more now. The kid turning into the donkey and freaking out never ceases to chill me. (That whale is pretty creepy, too.)

→ Meme time!

So, uh, I watched Beverly Hills Chihuahua and actually liked it. >_>; It's a movie about talking dogs! And it's Disney! I couldn't resist! Plus we got it for eight dollars cheaper with coupons.

Almost forgot!

THE AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER FRIENDING MEME
samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (♥ she's a beautiful girl)
Hmmm... Ash Wednesday is today. This means I have to a) go and get ashes, b) give something up, and c) not eat meat today and on Fridays. I think the indulgence I'm going to give up is soft drinks and soda. I have to, because it's not good for me anyway.

Also, dude, I just. I just came across the soundtrack for The Pagemaster movie, ajgklajgklajvklag, memory lane.

Hearing Republicans from my community college suggest that Democrats in general should get impeached from office put me in a very pessimistic mood today. THAT'S MY GENERAL MOOD ABOUT POLITICS TODAY, WHAT'S YOURS?

In better news, take a look at this video. It has some pretty sweet concept art and pictures of dolls for the next Disney movie The Princess and the Frog. I'm pretty excited about this movie. It looks cute. Please to be getting back to your glory days, Disney.

samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (♥ girls love a man in a cape)
I got books! Books I've wanted for awhile! "Let The Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist - which is cool, because the title wasn't changed in this translation, thank God - and "This is Not Chick Lit," edited by Elizabeth Merrick.

We also got Mary Poppins, Treasure Planet, and Igor on DVD today. Whoo! \o/

I kinda hope I stay up past 7-8 o'clock tonight. I've been falling asleep around those times. :/ I don't mind sleeping through the night, but I hate falling asleep that early. It's not natural for me.
