Because she's annoying. She's the balance between Tifa and Aerith. Tifa and Aerith are level-headed adult women, but Yuffie is soooo not mature or level-headed at all. She's opinionated, she's loud, she'll get in your face, and she'll steal your materia while you're sleeping. This sounds more like a reason to hate her than anything else, but it's actually one of the reasons why I adore her so much.

(Not to mention she's royalty but she still travels the globe and gets to be a ninja, schemes to restore Wutai to its original state, and tells her father off whenever he steps on her toes.)

I love both versions of Rei for different reasons. I like that anime!Rei will go through hell and back for her friends, especially Usagi. I like that manga!Rei doesn't want to do the stereotypical thing and find a rich husband to be happy--actually, that's her worst nightmare.

All in all, though, I feel a nostalgic connection with the anime version that will never go away, but I do agree that it's ridiculous she needed to be changed at all. I hated how manga!Rei wouldn't be caught dead hoping for a man and marriage whereas anime!Rei...obviously wanted that. Not that there's anything wrong with wanting to settle down with someone; it just baffles me that it wasn't something the original version of Rei wanted and that the anime version is drastically different. :/

She doesn't do much for me in the series, but I like how she makes herself at home in Soul and Maka's apartment--I'm assuming it's an apartment, because I forget if they've ever mentioned their home--even though they were trying to kill her and she nearly won the battle against them. And as an extra bonus, focusing on her manga canon, she kicks a lot of ass in her feline form.
