I'll take you higher.
Sep. 21st, 2009 07:52 pmOh, dear. Look at what LJ just cooked up.
I thought people got paid accounts to avoid ads, not purposely set up ads on their blogs, but ... whatever. At least it's an opt-in. If I had to look at them with my paid account, no choice in the matter, then I would've been pissed.

Date: 2009-09-22 01:09 pm (UTC)I agree, it's not that big of a deal. I confess I'd be tempted to turn it on (because as a student with no chance to work, my economy is a bit tight at the moment) if I weren't as opposed to paysites regarding the sims community as I am.
People will make a huge deal out of anything. I'm not sure if you're still involved with the Sims fandom, but back in June, a community I mod was offered the chance to "promote" the sims 3. We'd give a free copy away and change temporarily our layout (with an ugly sims 3 one) for a month. Once we were sure that the ads weren't harmful and would only "be active" when someone voluntarily clicked on them, we accepted the deal (we in turn would get permanent accounts).
It was a huge drama and we were called sell-outs. I was quite offended at this ordeal to be honest, because it was optional, but I dealtwith it. Many people left the community and all that too. So yes, people make a huge deal in the Internet out of anything.

Date: 2009-09-23 01:38 am (UTC)Oh man. I dropped out of the Sims fandom sometime after my best friend was unfairly ranted about in
But, uh ... wow, people freaked out and called you guys sell-outs over something like that? Goes to show you, people are way too sensitive about things like that. I'm sorry it happened. :\ Is it sad that I'm really not surprised, though?
