NaNoWriMo Progress, Day One
Nov. 1st, 2009 09:31 pmFor NaNoWriMo, I decided to go with some light and fluffy, somewhat dramatic plot, because I haven't had the time or patience to organize a clear and coherent plot structure. I'm concerned with seeing if I can accomplish getting a daily quota in for the project more than I am with quality. Quantity first, quality later. 8D; (Also, the plot has boy love. And an OT3. Fuck yeah.)
I started reading "Dead Until Dark" by Charlaine Harris. It is such a trashy read--don't tell me it isn't, because the line "THERE IS A JUICY ARTERY IN YOUR GROIN" totally did it--but I like it because Sookie Stackhouse actually kicks ass, unlike Bella Swan, and Bill is not the stalker that Edward Cullen was.

Date: 2009-11-02 04:30 am (UTC)I probably won't post mine. It's based off a private universe that a friend and I work on, and I'm a little uncomfortable with the quality and the dull plot. xD; I might change my mind later, though. I'm only four-five pages in.

Date: 2009-11-02 04:04 am (UTC)I plan to bum copies of the Sookie Stackhouse series offa my friends at some point, but I haven't actually read any of them yet. I heard they start out pretty awesome for the first few books, but Harris kind of overloads them throughout the series with a shit ton of love interests for Sookie. Perhaps?

Date: 2009-11-02 04:25 am (UTC)Yeah, that's what I've heard about Sookie. My Internet wife/BFF told me Sookie, although she's definitely better than Bella, tends to attract a lot of guys. Even in chapter one, it's implied that another guy likes her, other than Bill. I'm not sure how it's going to play out in the book, though. :/ I think bumming copies off of friends is a good idea. I bought the first one at only $7.99, and I think I'll borrow the rest from the library in case I don't like them.

Date: 2009-11-02 04:33 am (UTC)Also, since I've watched the show first and am pretty hooked, I get the feeling that I won't like the books as much. From what it sounds like the books are basically all Sookie all the time, and I do love Sook, but when I watch the show, I'm generally much more interested in all the side characters and their troubles.

Date: 2009-11-02 04:37 am (UTC)It does seem to be all about Sookie. We only discover things about the side characters from her view, since the book is in first person perspective. Not that it's a bad thing! But I understand what you mean, because I usually end up falling in love with the side characters, or at least the characters that aren't within the main cast.
