a) Why is the measure of love loss?
b) She held out her arms, her face softening with love, I took her two hands to my mouth and kissed each slowly so I could memorise the shape of her knuckles.
c) The colours blur and I can only see her face.
d) It used to be that everybody believed and faith was found in thousands of tiny churches up and down the British Isles.
e) I don't know if this is a happy ending but here we are let loose in open fields.
Book #2
a) Let me guess. You want to know why I tried to kill myself.
b) "Charley."
c) When we reached the sidewalk, she motioned to the left and we turned.
d) "Did you go out with them?"
e) And if my father said it, I believe it.

a) A mile above Oz, the Witch balanced on the wind's forward edge, as if she were a green fleck of the land itself, flung up and sent wheeling away by the turbulent wind.
b) "That's the way, healthful exercise," said Nanny, nodding.
c) At least Galinda turned to see, but then she disappeared behind the fan again.
d) "Little Fabala, little Elphaba, little Elphie."
e) "Not yet."
Book #4
a) He--for there could be no doubt of his sex, though the fashion of the time did something to disguise it--was in the act of slicing at the head of a Moor which swung from the rafters.

d) "Most august, most lucid of beams," --thus she was apostrophising the hump in the cushion when they drove beneathe one of the steet lamps in Berkeley Square and she realised her mistake.
e) And the twelfth stroke of midnight sounded; the twelfth stroke of midnight, Thursday, the eleventh of October, Nineteen Hundred and Twenty-eight.

a) It's hard being left behind.
b) She is a member of the museum and an alumna of Roosevelt University.
c) "We've dealt with you very leniently, here."
d) As I wrap my hair in a towel I see myself blurred in the mirror by steam and time seems to fold over onto itself and I see myself as a layering of all my previous days nad years and all the time that is coming and suddenly I feel as though I've become invisible.
e) He is coming, and I am here.
Book #6
a) The angel was cleaning out his closets when the call came.
b) "Got what?"
c) "So it's off to Antioch," Joshua said.
d) "Why?"
e) "Damn, I would have guessed Harvey," Biff said.
Book #7
a) It was November.
b) In the hush that followed, Miss Winter seemed to draw all of her external self into her core; under my very eyes she managed to absent herself from herself, and I began to understand how it was earlier that I had failed to see her.
c) He could walk faster than anyone, had grown used to finding himself walking into thin air and turning to find his walking companion scurrying along a few yards behind his back, panting with the effort of keeping up.
d) We hung about in the room, growing bored, then vexed by the curiosity that seeded itself in us despite our resistance.
e) He opened a cool green eye, regarded me for a moment, then closed it again.
Book #8
a) 1801 - I have just returned from a visit to my landlord - the solitary neighbour that I shall be troubled with.
b) ' "A wicked boy, at all events," remarked the old lady, "and quite unfit for a decent house!"
c) 'It's a nice place for a young man to fix his dwelling in!' said I.
d) 'Take care, Ellen!' answered Isabella, her eyes sparkling irefully - there was no misdoubting by their expression, the full success of her partner's endeavours to make himself detested.
e) I lingered round them, under that benign sky; watched the moths fluttering among the heath, and hare-bells; listened to the soft wind breathing through the grass; and wondered how any one could ever imagine unquiet slumbers, for the sleepers in that quiet earth.

c) "I'll never improve," the Turk answered, but his arms began to move faster than before.
d) In the center was a small leather wine holder and, beside it, some cheese and some apples.

I especially had trouble with the last one, because it's a bit ... different from the rests, and I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Oh and some of those should be blatantly obvious, unfortunately. xD;
