I'm really disappointed and angry at the same time. He was the last person I expected to stand up for Polanski. :\

Then again, I'm surprised that anyone would stand up for him now. He raped a thirteen year old girl! What would it say to young women if he got away with it?

At least Emma Thompson took her name off of the Pro-Polanski petition. That was good news to hear.

That petition is one of the biggest FAILS to ever come out of Hollywood.

THIS. Who the fuck came up with it?

I don't even think half the people who are signing the petition realize the extent of what Polanski did or the message they're sending out to other people. They're probably only signing it because Polanski is an ~artist~ and they have to stand up for the artists instead of realizing, oh hey, he raped a child and fled the country to escape the law, maybe he should go to jail. :|

While I still respect Johnny Depp as an actor, that was a really, really, really dumb thing to say.

Agreed. Although I do love his work, I'm less inclined to enjoy his movies now because my respect for him as a person changed drastically. How can you defend a rapist? And why?!

It just ... wasn't a smart thing to say in defense of Polanski at all. Yes, of course he's not on the streets because he's currently under house arrest for raping a minor! Durrrrrr.

Can we just fire all of Hollywood and start it over from scratch.

That said, I can't honestly say I am surprised, he always struck me in a wrong way when I thought about him as a person

I'm growing more and more fond of that idea. It just astounds me how many people are actually supporting this bastard because they can't separate the person from his works.

I don't know, I expected better out of him. Or any actor/actress. Or anyone for that matter, especially those with children of their own. And his logic doesn't even make sense! Polanski's not the streets. So what? Polanski's a goddamn rapist who fled the country to escape arrest. How the hell a decent person can even attempt to defend his behavior is beyond me and I don't think I want to understand the logic behind it. :\

But yeah, if he is ever freed because he's, zomg, an artist, I'm leaving Earth. Seriously.

In conclusion, what is this SHIT. Being an artist doesn't give you a free pass for being a complete scumbag. Trufax, Hollywood peeps.

Makes you wonder how many of these people have their own closet criminal behavior they'd like excused.

It really, really doesn't! Thankfully most of the other actors and artists I respect are against this slime ball and prefer seeing him locked up, but it's always discouraging to see another one added to the list of people in support for Polanski.

Makes you wonder how many of these people have their own closet criminal behavior they'd like excused.

That reminds me, I learned that Woody Allen supports the release of Polanski. Oh gee, why am I not surprised (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody_Allen#Soon-Yi_Previn).

To me it looks like most of the people supporting him are so ignorant about the man and his crimes because HE WON AN OSCAR for his ART. Uh, right, because it's impossible to separate the art from the man. Get back with us normal folk if and when that makes any sense.

Roman Polanski is a film director who was married to Sharon Tate, the victim from the infamous Charles Manson murders. The girl, who was thirteen at the time, was lured to his house through his mother because she wanted to achieve a career with the director and thought this chance meeting would do that. Well, the director drugged her when she complained about a headache, then he raped/sodomized her even though she kept asking him to stop and requesting to go home. He did get caught, but then he realized the judge was still going to give him jail time instead of the promised probation, since Polanski only agreed to plead guilty if five of the initial charges were dropped. He fled to France to escape the arrest.

That was in 1978. Polanski continued to make movies and even won an Oscar--yes, a goddamn Oscar--for one of them. He just got caught in 2009 under an international arrest for a different crime, I think, and the California Superior Court Judge Now recently ruled that Polanski needs to return here for sentencing. Now actors/artists are signing "Free Polanski" petitions because they think it's unfair that he's being charged at this present time because he's so old and so creative and makes wonderful films and all this other bullshit that makes no damn sense.

MIND BLOWING, ISN'T IT.
