Okay, quick question to those of you that played Final Fantasy VIII:

Do I really have to play the card games? :\

Personally I can't stand card games. They're aggravating. I hated them in FFIX, and I hate them even more in FFVIII, and I completely ignore real card games in real life. I hate losing them and 85% of the time, I lose a game. Each and every time I lose and get a great card taken away from me, I literally can't accept that and restart my game so I can keep those cards. If I keep doing this, I'm probably going to lose my mind. And probably break the PS3.

I know I can get special items through the game, but are these special items really that important? What can I get out of the card games that are actually useful, or can I just ignore the existence of these games and be okay near the end?

My FFVIII knowledge is a bit rusty because it's been years since I've played it but I think you can refine cards into rare/valuable items with the card mod ability and the best items you'll get from the rarer cards.

I know some level 6 or 7 cards can give you elemental stones and you can refine a lot of cards for weapon upgrade items. I mostly used the cards for the weapon upgrades.

Ahh, okay. The walkthrough I'm reading wasn't making it clear to me as to why I need to play the games. Right now the walkthrough is informing me to play card games with a specific kid just to get the Mog card, and ... I barely have any good cards that can help me win against the Mog card. Either that or I'm horrible with strategies. Both make sense.

Right now I'm just trying to figure out if I can skip the card games but still get the rare items somehow. I skipped the card games in FFIX as soon as I found out I didn't need to play them. xD; I'm a horrible gamer like that.

I haven't played the game since it first came out, so ... yeah, it feels like I've never even played it, because I forgot a lot about the gameplay. And unfortunately, the card system was one of those. Apparently you can refine magic and items through cards? I don't even know anymore. 8(

THE CARD GAME AGGRAVATES ME. I mean, now I'm starting to get the hang of it, but it's still annoying.

I'm giving it a try, since I just got the MiniMog card and I'm feeling better now, but arrrrg. Cards. I hate you guys.
