Yyyeah, I did have an eye doctor appointment this morning, but he was called into surgery so I had to reschedule. Which is fine with me, because I've been up since 4AM with my head pounding. (It was because I ate food that my system disagrees with. I really oughta know better. :/) At least my sleeping schedule's somewhat returning back to normal?

I have too many to even keep count! I collect lots of quotes. Literary quotes, quotes said by other people, funny quotes, sad quotes, quotes from video games, quotes from movies, anything you can think of, I've collected them in this post here. (And please feel free to add any of your favorites. I'd love to see them.) So instead of just picking one individual quote, I'm going to pick a lot of my favorite quotes that hit close to home with me.

"There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft... When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness." ("The Kite Runner," Khaled Hosseini)

I haven't gotten around to reading this book yet--it's sitting in my shelf, but I've been a lazy reader lately since I've discovered PS1 games in the Playstation store--and yet, this is one of my favorite literary quotes. It's something so simple that I hadn't thought of before, or dare to make the connection between theft and murder. It convinced me to pick up the book because the quote got me thinking.

I just need to know that someone out there listens and understands and doesn't try to sleep with people even though they could have. I need to know that these people exist. ("The Perks of Being a Wallflower," Stephen Chbosky)

I don't care if you love the book or if you hate it. Other people read The Catcher in the Rye and relate to Holden. I read this book and related to Charlie. I was that awkward, depressed kid trying to find my place or make sense out of life. I read this book shortly after I graduated high school, when I was suffering form a period of depression and anxiety, and I still think it was the right book for the right time. I'm better now, but I know better than to repress those emotions when they show up. I'm not sure what it is about this quote that stands out to me, or why, but there you go.

The Buddhists say there are 149 ways to God. I'm not looking for God, only for myself, and that is far more complicated. God has had a great deal written about Him; nothing has been written about me. God is bigger, like my mother, easier to find, even in the dark. I could be anywhere, and since I can't describe myself I can't ask for help. ("Sexing The Cherry," Jeanette Winterson)

This is simply my feelings about God and religion at the moment. That's all there is to it.

I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
she calls me that sometimes
she said you can do just exactly
what you want to
Thanks God I said
And is it even okay if I don't paragraph
my letters
Sweetcakes God said
who knows where she picked that up
what I'm telling you is
Yes Yes Yes
("God Said Yes," Kaylin Haught)

I'm not sure if this counts, since it's a poem, but whatever, it's my journal and I'll break the rules if I feel like it! So um, yeah, I think this poem is one of my favorites because people forget that women don't fit into molds. We're more than just Madonnas or Whores. We're also not meant to be put on display and have our appearances ridiculed, but it happens every damn day. We should be okay with ourselves and what makes us happy, and I like to think that God would want that. (Also, I like that God is addressed as a woman. Personally I think God is neither one, or God appears in any form that suits your experiences, but I love that identification in this poem so much.)

Enjoying the act of writing is more important than any other qualification for people aiming to be writers. ("1Q84," Haruki Murakami)

Because a lot of people--especially critics--forget that writers write because it's something they want to do, and nothing more or less.
