DAY 05 - THE PAIRING WITH THE LEAST CHEMISTRY

Kim Possible/Ron Stoppable.

I recognized that the writers have been building up towards them hooking up for an entire season, and this is probably my bias talking since I preferred Kim/Shego, but Kim/Ron just had...no romantic chemistry. Even when they finally got together, it felt completely forced. In the last season, you'd even forget that the two of them were a couple until certain scenes made you go: "Oh yeah, that's right, they're dating." I don't know if the writers didn't know how to transition their chemistry as best friends to their chemistry as a couple, but from the moment they got together to the moment the show ended, I never believed they loved each other. Or rather, I never believed that Kim loved Ron as a boyfriend.

All the moments before then hinting that Kim/Ron was going to happen? Didn't help whatsoever. Ron's realization that Kim possibly had feelings for him had to be achieved through manipulative means within the narrative. Kim had to have some experimental mood altering device attached to her and throwing her emotions out of whack (which also happened to Shego because 'lol female hormones') and cling to Ron--against her better judgment. That just bothers me on another level that I'm not even going to begin addressing in this meme.

More importantly, and I didn't realize this until [livejournal.com profile] ivy_chan pointed it out to me, Kim and Ron are extremely different in terms of characterization and development. Kim was a self-centered, egotistical, superficial girl in the first season, but as the series progressed, she became kinder and a little easier to relate to an audience. Ron stayed the same: the goofy, off-beat comedia relief who occasionally had his own personal arcs. The idea of them together when she's athe rounder character just doesn't bode well. I'm not saying Ron HAD to change completely, but it never felt like anything about him changed.

I don't know. I like the "bffs from childhood become lovers" trope when it's done right. This isn't a good example of it.

I would've gone into detail about why I love her, but really, that just fits everything I feel about her. Luna's awesome!

I've always like Luna and I actually liked her English accent in the dub, though it probably made her nagging sound intolerable to some people heh.

So did I; I think it fit her very much. I don't really like the other accents where she sounds squeakier than Usagi.

Then again, I didn't really have a problem with the dub voices. The butchered dialogue, sure, but I always thought the voice themselves were fine. (Especially Usagi/Serena's first voice, until they went and changed it. Her second voice dubber was just terrible.)

I tried watching the third season dub to see what her voice was like, about ten seconds in and I'm done. MY FUCKIN EARS JFC

Oh it was HORRIBLE. She had her moments, but...the first one was definitely better. She had heart in it. The second one was just obnoxious.

Agreed on Kim/Ron. I feel kind of bad for not liking it (that kind of ship is right up my alley) but they really do not have romantic chemistry. The way that they acted as friends was the same way that they acted as a couple. Plus, they didn't hint towards Kim/Ron until season three. It seemed like those two getting together was just a cliche' wrap up for So The Drama. Meh.

I feel a little bad, too, because they're great friends. It's just a shame that you could never believe in their relationship. I really do think the writers just had no idea how to transition them from friends to boyfriend/girlfriend, since they planned for season three to be the last one. Even then, the ending did seem to be a cliche wrap up as you've said. :\

To be honest, most of the canon ships in Kim Possible never seem...genuine. Drakken/Shego is considerably worst, because they randomly put them together in the final episode without the build-up, from what I've heard, but they do have something that can be read as romance chemistry. (Slap-slap-kiss, mainly.)
