'Twilight' author sued for plagiarism?
Two things I'm wondering:
1. Is this even true? Show me a news article, or it didn't happen. (There's another article here, but it's basically the copied text of what's above. The bad grammar and the misspellings alone leaves me skeptical.) I mean, it would make sense, because I don't understand how she wrote an entire novel in two to three months as a housewife and mother of three kids without the editing process and without something suspicious in the works. (I'm not saying that a housewife and/or mother can't write a novel. It's the time it took to write that novel - with all of those responsibilities to deal with - that seems entirely impossible to me.) However, I'm questioning the article's legibility, and I'm assuming Smeyer's innocent until proven guilty because plagiarism isn't something to joke around about. That can ruin someone's career in a split second. :\
That, and plagiarism isn't exactly "she took my idea for a story"; it usually falls under "she took scenes and words directly out of my story and adapted them into her novel". Let's face it, there's nothing really original in a plot about an ordinary girl falling in love with a dangerous supernatural guy by itself. So unless Smeyer truly copied the "sparkling vampire" scene word-for-word, it'd be difficult to bring this series to court over one fictional short story that uses the same basic formula for every other vampire novel out there, y'know?
2. Why would anyone want to claim this series as their own? Seriously? (Okay, I know, the money. But still.)
Edit: This page here states that it's still filming, so I'm 95% sure this article is absolutely false.

Date: 2009-04-19 10:48 am (UTC)It is possible to write a novel in a month or so (ref. NaNoWriMo) but even doing so would take up a solid amount of time everyday.
And from the interviews I've heard Meyer do, whenever she's asked "How did you find time to write the story?" She always replies "Oh I didn't." She doesn't answer the question directly as if she's trying to avoid the question. And judging from the fact that she was a housewife who had to take care of three kids, she must have been staying up late for a few hours if she could finish writing that book.
Bleh, sorry for the mini rant there. I used to be a TwiHard, that's how I know so much about the series and Meyer. But I've converted to Anti-Twilighter.

Date: 2009-04-19 07:09 pm (UTC)I read the first book. The first book doesn't bother me as much. It's stupid, but at least it was a guilty pleasure. It's everything that's followed it so far that I can't stand.

Date: 2009-04-20 10:56 am (UTC)But this whole thing is a hoax. Not only is the film not in post-production, I doubt that the production would be shut down at all due to a lawsuit, secondly it is not being reported in any reputable source (There is no AP article), and one of the people cited doesn't seem to exist.
So yeah, totally something fake.
Also and this may seem weird, but Meyer comes off as completely honest to me, like I don't read her as being a liar, and in fact she tends to overshare on things and well, I am just inclined to believe her, particularly at this point in the game.
Also, AP Articles never use (Associated Press), they are always (AP), Filming is in Vancouver, not LA, Dr. Peter Benton, does not seem to exist, and the article is horribly edited even by today's standards. Also, the studio heads would never talk on this matter, it would go to PR people.

That's not so weird. I agree with that. I remember her mentioning some ... very strange information about what vampires do when a human girl's on her period. Considering that she can talk about that so bluntly, I'm sure she would mention if she and a friend shared a similar idea in
