samatethecookie: holy crap, I have this hairstyle now (let's be more than this)
I heard there's this battle between Tumblr versus Livejournal now? Whatever, dudes. It sounds lame and it isn't worth the headache. Both are legitimate great forms of blogging in their own rights for different reasons.

Also, there's been this stupid chart circulating around Tumblr and Livejournal about female characters and grouping them into stereotypes to display how they aren't strong female characters. Nobody is an exception, not even Sailor Moon or Angelica Pickles or Yoko Ono. I can't really explain what's wrong with it as properly as I want to, so I'm going to link you to a few posts that sum everything I feel about this chart. There's much more, but those two are the main ones that pop into my brain right now.

Speaking of Tumblr!

A few months back I posted a series of fanart featuring ships I don't actually or actively ship. These were pictures that inspired me to check a ship out or the picture was so pretty that I couldn't help but love the ship for a short amount of time until I realized, "Oh, yeah, this does nothing for me in canon, my mistake."

I thought about it for a few days, before and after [livejournal.com profile] analeisa started doing a fanart spam based on the idea in her own tumblr, and decided to feature some fanfiction that do the same thing for me. The featured stories focus on ships I don't really love nor do I really seek out on a regular basis. These stories do such a great job at convincing me (and possibly others) that the ship can work or displaying everything beneficial the ship has to offer to fans that I can't help but add them to my favorites and go back for constant rereads.

So, here's the list. There's only four of them, for now, but these four are some of my favorites to recommend.

Fandoms include Disney, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Kingdom Hearts... )

I've finally purchased Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep yesterday (er, on Monday), but I hadn't gotten around to really playing with it. Sabrina was more excited about the game, so she took over my PSP and played through Aqua's part almost immediately. I played...maybe five minutes of Aqua's story on my own game. From what I've seen and heard about it, it seems like it's going to be a fun game. I'm ridiculously excited to play as Aqua because that was my first character's name and THAT'S WAY TOO COOL.

While I bought Birth By Sleep, Dad also picked up a new Classic Controller Pro for our Wii, since the one I purchased already wore out. So, now I'm finally progressing in Ocarina of Time. (I literally almost WEPT when I got the Megaton Hammer. I couldn't reach that bitch with the lousy controller before.) I finally finished Gerudo Fortress--which was a huge pain in the ass because I'm a lousy ninja and I do even worst at aiming my arrows--and now I'm on my way to the Spirit Temple. Oh, Zelda, you never fail to entertain me for hours.

(Also, since I know the whole Sheik = Zelda thing is still a huge deal in the Zelda fandom, especially for Sheik/Link fans who prefer Sheik being a completely different character from Zelda, I can't help but laugh at everything. It's a little obvious that Sheik is Zelda in disguise. I knew that the first time I ever played the game. Although I wouldn't have minded Sheik and Link's *~epic romance~* if Sheik was actually a dude.)

Um. I should really DO THOSE 30 DAY MEMES I said I'd do. I'll start tomorrow. Yeah, tomorrow, if I remember. I've just been out of it lately. My stomach's bothering me and my sinuses seem to be flaring up every once in awhile. WHY IS EVERYONE GETTING SICK.

I think PS2 is on its last leg. Whenever scenes change, during game play or cut scenes, it lags. It takes a full minute to change scenes. I can always get another PS2, but it surprises me because I've had this PS2 Slim for a long time and it's breaking on us now. :\ (I suspect it's because my little sister never turns off the console when she's done playing them. I almost always find it running for hours, without anyone using it, whenever my sister plays a game and forgets to turn it off. PS2, PS3, the Wii, anything that can play a game. I wish the PS2 had these controls to lock someone out of the PS2 console, because it's starting to get on my nerves, not to mention how expensive these consoles were.)

I was playing Kingdom Hearts 2, and the only real thoughts I have on it is my aggravation over the voices of the Final Fantasy characters. Some of them are just awful.
(a) Mae Whitman can never be Yuffie to me, because whenever she opens her mouth, all I hear is, "HI, I'M KATARA." (Which isn't a bad thing! It's just that Whitman has one of those voices that never escapes you once you've heard her play one character.)
(b) Cid sounds like he's sixty instead of forty-something. I get that he's older than the other characters, but he's not that old.
(c) Aerith. Every voice Aerith's had with the exception of Crisis Core has been terrible. Why can't they figure out which voice actress suits her? She's had three in total so far, and all of them sound too ridiculously soft-spoken. And her voice actress in KH2, Mena Suvari, sounds like she had a head cold, and as though she wasn't even trying with her lines. :\ Please, ppl, stick with Andrea Bowen from Crisis Core from now on.

The only voices I don't cringe whenever I hear them belong to Leon, Cloud, and Sephiroth. (Well, the second game for Sephiroth, since they realized casting a member from the pop group N*Sync to play an extremely popular, menancing villain like Sephiroth wasn't exactly a good idea, and thankfully picked up George Newbern to play Sephiroth since then.) There's Tifa and the others, but I haven't really heard their voices yet, and I forget what they sound like in the Kingdom Hearts series.

And I realize I'm rambling, so I'm going to end this entry with a completely random realization that I haven't been reading a lot lately, which disappoints me greatly. I think I'm going to start getting around to House of Leaves, BUT I AM SCARED, YOU GUYS.

On that note, Sev, I just found something related to our little inside jokes. A picture from Tumblr... )

Well, it's time for me to stop angsting, or try to. Right now I'm sore more than anything.

I finished that top 5 meme lists, with the exception of one. I still have the Top 5 Fanon Ships to do, but I'll post it later tonight or tomorrow. I might tweek the lists later. I don't know yet, we'll see.

Most of the fandoms include Sailor Moon, Nana, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Avatar. I wanted to include more, but I'll think of something for the Top 5 Fanon Ships. If anyone still wishes to suggest something else, feel free!

Randomly, two Beluga whales are pregnant at the Shedd Aquarium! They're both expected to give birth this fall. How awesome is that? I want to go see the babies after they arrive, if that's possible.

The answers to the Top 5 Meme are nearly finished! I have one list to complete - top 5 fanon ships, fuck yeah! - and the lists are ready to go.

In the meantime, allow me to pimp a few stories out to you! I've been searching for Final Fantasy fanfiction, and I'm looking for rare ships that I've never thought about before. There's a Kingdom Hearts story in the list, but it's still related to Final Fantasy. Each story rec will come with a snippet from the story.

Three fics: Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, and Kindom Hearts. )
