Zidane/Dagger.

1. When I started shipping them: Ever since I started playing the game, I liked them.
2. What I think their challenge is: Well, you have to consider the fact that Zidane is a notorious womanizer--or he fancies himself as one--and there's a huge chance that he doesn't have a long lifespan. Then there's Dagger. Technically she isn't royalty, but she's still a queen and obviously that caused a couple of problems between them in canon.
3. What makes me happy about them: They impacted each other's lives. Zidane's behavior towards women changed after he met her, and she and his friends give him a reason to keep going with his life in his darkest hour. Dagger also changed for the better; she learned to stand up for herself, and recognize her flaws and realize she has to improve herself.
4. What makes me sad about them: Nothing, really.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: I don't think I have any.
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I've never thought about it! I'm not a huge non-canon shipper in Final Fantasy IX. The biggest non-canon ship I go with is Amarant/Freya (idk how to spell her name, I always forget), although I'll argue that there's enough canon to back them up. Uh, I can totally see Beatrix/Dagger, but I love Beatrix with Steiner so.
7. My happily ever after for them: IT ALREADY HAPPENED. Seriously, talk about the best Final Fantasy ending ever. (Final Fantasy VIII counts too, but I barely remember it. I still have to beat the game.)

Awww...

Yeah, canon never really gives us a proper explanation about Zidane's lifespan - I mean, one line from Garland suggests that it might be unlimited but that is just one vague line.
