A post on my flist got me thinking.

Does anyone have any anime/manga recommendations?

It's been awhile since I've gotten into a series or a new fandom. Like, I tried to go back and read past manga that I've looked at before, but I can't get into like. Like Negima!, for instance. Too many panty shots and too many "innocent boy gets smacked by overreacting naughty girls" cliches that bother me. Anything like that, if it's every other page, I'm not interested.

Help a girl out, people. Please? D:

I'll try those two out~

Man, so do I. My show Avatar ended last year in July, and I've been desperate for a new fandom since. XD;

I just went into Avatar last year around November (late fan xD) and I'm desperate for new fandoms too.

Oh man, being a late fan sucks. At least you still experienced the awesome!

xD Apart from all the spoilers in icons, being a late fan doesn't seem that bad when all the episodes are avaliable and you don't have to wait xD BUT IT WAS EPIC! 8D

THIS IS TRUE. Free episodes rock.

DITTO. But majority of the episodes at [livejournal.com profile] avatar_episodes were hosted on Megaupload which was awful because Megaupload has this limit to free accounts -.-

:/ Oh that sucks. I know [livejournal.com profile] suspicious was a late-comer shortly before the finale aired and she got her episodes from .. somewhere, I forget. I tried [livejournal.com profile] avatar_episodes awhile ago, and it was just terrible. There was NOTHING available last I checked.

i'm completely in love with bakuman at the moment but i warn that it can be a little boring sometimes. if you like the first chapter, keep reading and try to focus on the characters rather than the story. if not, theeeen it's probably not your cup of tea ):

the character development is one of the most interesting things about it rather than the OMG WE'RE DRAWING GUYS AND WE'RE GONNA HAVE TROUBLES OH MAN stuff. it's sort of subtle instead of laid right out and it's nice to see how they all change in little ways. i'm under the impression that you really like character development so maybe you will like it. i hope you do. c:

seeing as you like honeydew syndrome, i'll mention that there's slash material but it isn't fan service. even though i ship it myself i realize that the bakugods are not going to bestow sudden gay. saiko and shuujin's relationship really is best friendship at its finest and the dynamics between them can be appreciated with or without slash goggles.

also it's pretty hilarious. they're such nerds.

it's a really great series with a small fanbase so i'd love to have more people get into it without it being the next death note. ♥

Yes, I really do love character development. I don't mind if it concentrates on the characters more than the story, because what's the point of a fast-paced story if the characters never develop? That's one of my biggest pet peeves. :/

I'll give Bakuman a try! I really want to get back in a series. :)

oh god Death Note. I tried to read that ... I was into it at first, but the fandom is creepy.

bakuman goes through close to three years in less than 30 chapters. it does move fast but the characters move so smoothly with it that you don't even realize it. people complain "blaah it's boring :I" and that it's sexist but the sexism is because of the characters (they are teenage boys. what teenage boy isn't at least a little sexist) and if it comes off as boring, it's because too much focus is being put on the story. the story is basically how a manga is published. interesting enough, but chapter after chapter is that is bound to get boring. bakuman is all characters for me and i think if you keep that in mind before you read, it makes it a lot more likable. they really are ordinary kids which is something i just eat up. people keep expecting ohmygaw amazing characters but they're just...normal. :|

when you finish the first chapter tell me what you think! c: and it updates weekly so there's no month long break between chapters. ooh how nice it is.

bakuman is done by the same duo that did death note but hey baku > dn. i was just impressed to see how well they pulled it off considering how much death note confused me even after trying to read it numerous times. :U dn fandom really is scary that's why i hope bakuman never gets popular ahaha;;;;

Normal characters are fine with me! I'm reading the first chapter on onemanga.com right now, and so far I'm enjoying it!

As long as it's not near-comatose slow, I'll probably be all right with the plot. Sexism, ... it depends on the context, I think. I can handle a little bit depending on who the characters are; especially if they're teenage boys. I grew up with two older brothers so it takes a lot for my buttons to be triggered. XD;

Good, I'm glad it updates weekly. I'm still waiting on that Nana series to update any time soon. */eyes it*

shit, glad I'm not the only one who got confused over Death Note. D: After volume ... five or six, I just stopped paying attention. And the main character was completely unlikable to me; unlikable main characters kill fandoms for me. The fandom scared me because they take the characters and .. I don't know, turn them into different people for the sake of slashing? idk, that's how I saw it.

HUZZAH i'm glad~

oh yeah you're good. it's not like molasses or anything, it's just a lot of little steps to reach the big goal. LFMAO TWO OLDER BROTHERS you'll definitely be fine. it's just shuujin's observations and they seem to be pretty accurate but i know quite a few fans went THE CREATORS ARE SEXIST!!!!! and i didn't see it all until they went up in arms.......

i don't even have the patience for monthly series anymore i've been spoiled ):

YES. THIS. i have no idea how light/l could be anything. i sort of get the whole hatesex thing but people seem to think that twu wuv puppy love is somehow plausible? I JUST...FLAMoskf mikami/light i could see. that would be cool, i won't lie. but anything else? i wouldn't be able to look at it.

Pffft. I doubt Bakuman is that bad. I can't judge yet though because I don't know the exact complaints and I'm still in the middle of chapter two. TIME WILL COME, THOUGH. I gotta start crash reading on this and a bunch of other series to come.

yes to all that, light/l makes no damn sense to me unless it's got hate sex involved. especially when people trying to play them off as the greatest love of all love or something. And then there was that one character with the obsession with chocolate and the other dude who barely gets any lines/any personality, and it's some OTP? I don't get it. Near the end, I was like, "Fuck this shit, does Light die?" and went on YouTube.

Have you read Fairy Tail? Or watched Baccano!?

Also Kuroshitsuji is really good, too.

Oh man, I haven't heard any of those. D: a;gla;hka.

SEE, THIS IS HOW OUT OF THE LOOP I AM.

Well Kuroshitsuji the manga is amazing. I haven't seen the anime yet but I hear it's just as good. The characters are absolutely amazing and the storyline is pretty original. I really like it.

Fairy Tail is kinda similar to One Piece but lately it's been getting really, really, really good and really original. I love all the characters to death and have actually rp'd three of them. They're so much fun.

Baccano! Is a great anime. The characters are good and the storyline is really complicated but fun to figure out. It's a small series, too, only like 20 episodes.

Kuroshitsuji is also known as Black Butler.

Also have you read d.gray-man I can't remember

I've heard of that! Haven't read it yet, though.

D.Gray-Man is probably my favorite series, it's soooo good. I RP one of the main characters (see icon) and god idk It's so good I just love it.

I'd also suggest xxxHolic but it's a CLAMP manga so it gets really confusing in the later chapters and chances are they'll never finish. But it's still really, really good.

Also DOGs/DOGs: Bullets & Carnage and Deadman Wonderland are really good, but they're more serious and are definitely for a more mature audience. Not like sex wise but violence and language.

http://www.onemanga.com/Dogs/ (read this one first, it's the prologue. only six chapters long)
http://www.onemanga.com/Dogs_-_Bullets_%26_Carnage/ (this next, this is the ongoing updated manga)

Also bakuman is really good but Jane's on top of suggesting that.

Also Reborn! Is pretty good, I dunno it's alright, but the characters are absolutely loveable so. It's pretty lighthearted, the most recent arc is kinda depressing, but it's good. It's the mafia manga going around out there.

Also xxxHolic:

Yeah, I gotta read xxxHolic. I like Tsubasa (I stopped at some point) and forgot to read that series too.

Ahhh okay, I know what Kuroshitsuji is. Someone on my friends list talked about it a few months ago, but I forgot to look it up. I'll go and take a look at all those.

ALSO Soul Eater and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann are really good, but I would recommend the animes over the mangas for both of those.

Here are the first few eps of TTGL http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/2460.html

I know a lot of those! One Piece, Bleach, Death Note, Dragon Ball Z, Digimon (which I don't like, to be honest :/ got too much of it shoved down my throat early on), D.N. Angel, and Yu Yu Hakusho. I'll give the others a try!

I can not stress this anime enough... Princess Tutu.

It sounds silly, I know. But it's awesome. It has this almost fairy tale like quality to it.

I saw the first episode of Princess Tutu a few years ago. I thought it was cute, but I could never catch the episodes on the Anime Network over here. :/ I'll go digging for those episodes.

Have you ever watched Samurai Champloo? It's a great series.
Also, my favorite series ever is The Slayers. It's kind of old now (though a new season did come out last year), but it is awesome, imo.
